When Life Gets Loud

Choosing Gratitude in Uncomfortable Moments

This episode reflects on stillness, perspective, and what we reach for when we cannot escape the noise.

What began as a routine MRI appointment became an unexpected spiritual moment. No music. No distraction. Just loud, unavoidable noise and a choice about what to do with it. In that moment, a truth surfaced: when you cannot drown out the noise, what you turn to reveals everything.

In this episode, I reflect on discomfort, gratitude, and the quiet discipline of choosing prayer over panic. It invites us to consider what we reach for when life gets loud, and our usual comforts are stripped away. If you turn to gratitude, it becomes your default. If you turn to prayer, it becomes your reflex.

Are we willing to choose stillness even when everything around us is loud? Today’s episode is a reminder that gratitude is always available to you, even inside an MRI machine. Your spiritual yay folder is waiting.

If life feels overwhelming or noisy lately, this is your reminder that you are not behind. It may simply be an invitation to get still.

Episode Notes

  • This episode was recorded in December 2025 while driving home from a medical appointment. Any pauses or imperfect moments are intentionally left in as a reminder that God often meets us not in perfection or polish, but in the middle of everyday life.

  • For Paid Subscribers: The yay folder didn’t start here. Head to the chat — I’m sharing where it really began and how you can use it professionally too.

Courage Contemplation

  1. When life gets loud, and your usual comforts are unavailable, what do you naturally reach for first? I encourage you to take one small action today to redirect that reach toward God. It could be as simple as a one-sentence prayer or a moment of intentional gratitude.

  2. What would it look like to build gratitude as a default rather than a last resort? What is one area of your life right now where you could practice that shift?

  3. What does choosing prayer over panic look like for you in this season, not ideally, but realistically?

Faith Fuel

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. -1 Thessalonians 5:18

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. -2 Corinthians 2:5
