A Pause Along the Way

How Contentment with Slowness Began

This episode reflects on formation, pace, and the invitation to live at the speed of trust rather than in a state of urgency.

What began as a seminary formation assignment slowly became a lived practice. When I first wrote the words contentment with slowness in a learning plan, I assumed it would be a seasonal discipline. Instead, it has become a long-term spiritual discipline. I realized that while I appreciated the idea of slowness, I still carried an internal resistance to it. I was physically present in my life, yet internally rushed.

Then pregnancy and early motherhood reshaped everything. My body began insisting on a pace my mind had not yet accepted. Slowness was no longer optional. It was formative.

In this episode, I share how contentment with slowness has moved from a concept to a calling in this season of my life. This is a conversation about the why behind the podcast and the heart beneath the pace.

It invites us to consider where we may still be resisting the very rhythm God is inviting us into.

If your life feels slower than you expected, if your capacity has shifted, or if this season looks different from what you planned, this episode is a reminder: you are not behind. You may simply be being formed.

Jesus did not move through life in a hurry. And you are not meant to be either.

If life feels noisy or distracting lately, this is your reminder that you are not behind. It may simply be a call to slow down.

Episode Notes

Paid subscribers, in our chat, I’m sharing the practices I chose for my first formation plan on Contentment with Slowness as a thank-you.

Courage Contemplation

  1. Do you believe and accept that formation happens slowly? Why/Why not?

  2. How do you tend to measure spiritual growth? Productivity? Faithfulness?

  3. What would it look like to trust that God is forming me in this season, not despite its slowness, but through it?

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” -2 Corinthians 3:18
